2024 Fall Ball: A Night of Celebration and Recognition

Celebrating Excellence at the 2024 Fall Ball and Annual Awards Ceremony

 




The Grande Maumelle Sailing Club’s 2024 Fall Ball and Annual Awards Ceremony was a memorable evening filled with joy, recognition, and community spirit. Held at a stunning venue, the event brought together members to celebrate another successful year and the achievements of sailors on and off the racecourse.

“The Fall Ball is a cherished tradition that embodies everything great about GMSC,” said Commodore Mary Michaels. “It’s a night to celebrate our members, reflect on the year, and honor the remarkable achievements that define our community.”

Special thanks go to Cait Tribett, Kim Tribett, and Garrett McLaurin, whose meticulous planning and hard work made the evening a resounding success. Their efforts created an elegant event, fostering an atmosphere of laughter, heartfelt speeches, and camaraderie that truly reflected the club’s values.

Fleet Winners

The ceremony recognized the outstanding sailors of the 2024 racing season:

  • Y-Flyer Overall: Ben Guise and crew Sherri Jo McLemore, Darin Jones, Jack Mulhollan, Mary Michaels, and Blake Byrd
  • Flying Scot Overall: Derrick and Gwynn Van Valkenburg
  • Hobie Overall: David Nigus
  • Centerboard Champion: Drew Daugherty and Nicole Class Moore
  • A-Fleet Overall: Nicole Class Moore with crew Yates Phillips and Jack Mulhollan
  • B-Fleet Overall: James Corriveau with crew Neil Zeman and Alex Davidson

Club Award Recipients

GMSC also honored five exceptional members with special club awards:

  • Rookie of the Year: Jeremy Brooks
  • Most Valuable Centerboard Crew: Gwynn Van Valkenburg
  • Most Valuable Keelboat Crew: Jeff Olm
  • Most Improved Skipper: Yates Phillips
  • Linda Sexton Memorial Service Award: Mary Michaels

“The recognition of our members, both on the water and behind the scenes, is a cornerstone of what makes GMSC such a special place,” Michaels added.

The evening concluded with heartfelt conversations, shared memories, and a renewed sense of connection among members. As we look ahead, the Fall Ball reminds us of the importance of celebrating our past while eagerly embracing the future.
