Sailors Brave the Chill with a Cozy Social and Sailing Seminar

Neil Jones | Published on 1/20/2025

When the biting January wind forced a pause on racing, GMSC members embraced the opportunity for a cozy gathering at the clubhouse. They turned the frigid day into a warm hub of camaraderie and learning, reminding everyone why community is at the heart of sailing.

The event kicked off at 12:30 PM, with attendees savoring a hearty spread of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and desserts. Tea and lemonade complemented the meal, as stories flowed freely in the clubhouse, providing a retreat from the freezing temperatures.

The highlight of the day was a concise yet impactful seminar on racing rules, led by Drew Daughtery. In just 15 minutes, Drew delivered actionable tips for keelboat and centerboard sailors, sparking engaging discussions and questions. Both seasoned racers and newcomers left with fresh insights for the season ahead.

Commodore Yates Phillip summed up the spirit of the gathering, saying, “This is what the club is about—offering a variety of ways for members to connect, learn, and grow together.”

Non-members are warmly invited to join future events. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or simply curious about the sport, GMSC offers something for everyone.
