Ahoy, Sailors! Drop In, Rig Up, and Sail at Tiller Time

Published on 5/2/2025

Whether you're new to sailing or a seasoned skipper, Wednesday evenings at GMSC are your chance to get out on the water, build skills, and enjoy the simple joy of sailing with friends. Tiller Time is back—and it’s open to all club members, every Wednesday from 5:00 PM until twilight, now through September.

Designed as an informal practice night, Tiller Time offers a flexible, come-and-go format that fits your schedule. Arrive early for more time on the water, or show up closer to sunset for a quick sail and some conversation at the pavilion. There’s no sign-up process, no entry fee, and no pressure. Just sign in when you arrive and head out when you’re ready.

The focus is on hands-on experience. Club members are welcome to use the club’s small boats—Sunfish, Pico, and Flying Scot—or bring and sail their own. Volunteers are available to help with rigging and offer friendly tips before you head out. It’s a great chance for new sailors to practice steering, sail trim, and docking skills in a supportive environment.

For more experienced members, Tiller Time offers an opportunity to sail with new crew, test sail settings, or just enjoy a relaxing evening on the lake. When the breeze is right, short informal races often pop up. There’s no official start line or scorekeeping—just friendly competition.

Back ashore, the club’s lakeside pavilion is the perfect gathering spot. Bring snacks or a cold drink and enjoy some easy conversation with fellow sailors. Whether you're swapping stories, offering advice, or just watching the sun set over Lake Maumelle, the Tiller Time vibe is always relaxed and welcoming.

Tiller Time isn’t about competition or instruction—it’s about opportunity. The opportunity to try something new. To practice what you’ve learned. To enjoy the lake. To make connections. And to feel more confident each time you take the tiller.

Whether you’ve just completed a Learn to Sail course or have decades of experience, Tiller Time is your invitation to get on the water, your way.
