D-Dock Walkway Now Complete!

Published on 7/8/2025

New Floating Walkway at D-Dock Fully Installed

As of this summer, the floating walkway project at D-Dock and SOCO Harbor is now complete. With Lake Maumelle back near normal levels, GMSC volunteers installed the final sections, finishing a major infrastructure improvement that began this past winter.

A Project Born from Need and Teamwork

Access to the docks is essential—especially during winter and early spring when low water makes steep ramps unsafe and hauling gear more difficult. Recognizing this, the club launched a multi-phase project to build a broad, stable floating walkway to replace the uneven and sometimes challenging path to the docks.

Designed and constructed in sections, the first phase opened during the off-season and immediately improved access to the south end of D-Dock and the boats in SOCO Harbor. Now, with the remaining segments installed, the full walkway offers a seamless connection from the D-Dock parking area to the water, accommodating both foot traffic and utility carts.

Built by GMSC Volunteers

This was truly a grassroots effort. GMSC volunteers spent countless hours measuring, hauling, assembling, and installing each section. Flotation units were sourced on a road trip to Gentry, Arkansas, and straw was laid along temporary paths to keep the area safe and clean throughout construction.

David Nigus, who led the project, noted, “Volunteers worked hard to make our docks and walkways more convenient and user-friendly.” The final product is a lasting testament to that spirit of collaboration.
