Lake Projects Update from CAW

Published on 10/23/2025

Central Arkansas Water (CAW) recently hosted an informational session at WestRock Landing Marina to share progress on several major projects around Lake Maumelle. The meeting, held October 21, brought together lake users, partners, and community members for updates on infrastructure repairs, environmental management, and upcoming improvements—all part of CAW’s ongoing commitment to protect the lake and ensure long-term water quality for the region.

CAW reported steady progress this year on several important initiatives:

  • WestRock Landing Boat Ramp: The main ramp has been demolished in preparation for reconstruction. While work is underway, the nearby service ramp remains open, ensuring continued access to the lake.

  • Hydrilla Mitigation: Another round of treatment was completed earlier this summer to control the spread of this invasive aquatic plant.

  • Highway 10 Bridge Repairs: The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) completed structural repairs to the bridge abutment damaged by heavy April rains.

  • Dam Repairs: Work on the Lake Maumelle Dam has been completed, restoring full function and safety.

  • Lake Cleanup and Navigation Enhancements: CAW’s Watershed and Lake Management Team removed eleven sunken or abandoned boats and installed a new shoreline and island numbering system to aid navigation and emergency response efforts.

Looking ahead, CAW and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) have planned boat launch improvements at WestRock Landing this fall. Construction is scheduled for November and December, and no artificial drawdown of the lake is expected. The lake is already naturally lower this season—about six feet below full pool, near elevation 284 feet—and will return to normal levels after the project’s completion.

CAW emphasized that these efforts are designed to enhance public safety, improve access, and preserve the ecological balance of Lake Maumelle, which serves as the primary drinking water source for Central Arkansas. The agency expressed appreciation for the cooperation and support of the local community throughout these projects.

For sailors, these updates bring welcome clarity heading into the new season. At this time, the planned improvements are not expected to affect GMSC’s 2025–26 sailing schedule, and normal lake access should continue during construction. However, conditions and schedules can change depending on project timing and weather. Members and visiting sailors are encouraged to check the GMSC event calendar regularly for updates on specific regattas and programs.

CAW’s stewardship plays a vital role in maintaining the health of Lake Maumelle—balancing environmental protection with recreational access for all who enjoy the lake.
