Junior Learn-to-Sail June 1-5

Ahoy, Parents and Grandparents!

GMSC is excited to announce Junior Learn-to-Sail will be held 1-5 June 2026. This program will be offered to children and grandchildren of GMSC Members and will be taught on Optis and Sunfish.

Gillian “Lou” Shapley, an alumnus of GMSC’s JLTS program and a certified U.S. Sailing Small Boat Instructor, will be our head coach for a second year. We are again recruiting other young local talent to assist with instruction, which is a wonderful opportunity for our teen sailors to gain experience with leadership roles.

Parent and grandparent volunteers are needed and encouraged. We will have a wide range of volunteer roles available to suit a variety of skills – you do not need to be an experienced sailor to help!

WHAT: Junior Learn-to-Sail

WHEN: Monday – Friday, June 1-5

TIME: 9am-1:30pm

WHO: Beginner and intermediate GMSC sailors between the ages of 8 and 16

Class size is limited based on the number of boats available. We will do our very best to accommodate as many students as possible, but this class will fill up. Please email Nicole at jlts@gmsc.org to express your interest and get your child’s name added to the list. Formal registration will occur at a later date.

Spring Regatta

April 18-19

We’re closing out a strong keelboat season with one of our signature events. Join us April 18–19 for the GMSC Spring Regatta on Lake Maumelle, the final keelboat regatta of the season.

It’s always a fun weekend with racing and the regatta dinner. Grab your crew and register now to be part of it.

We hope to see you there!

John Thomas has moved to an associate member.
We say farewell to JP Wornock & family, Jim Marone, Robert Hoke, Diane Torres Porter & farmily, Stephen Dearing, John Keisker, Brian Dinsmore, and J Plunkett & family.
Y-Flyer Update
We welcome Paul Smyers as a new member. Paul and Roger O'Quinn will join our fleet this year sailing our club boat and fleet boat.  James Corriveau will be selling his Y-Flyer to member Tyler Bayles. Tyler has been crewing for Mark Barton for many years.  The Smyers hosted our annual fleet party at their house on March 21st and we had a great time.   Mark Barton, Tracy Sykes, Miam Carlisle, and LIsa Parker attended Mid-Winters at Lake Alatoona in Atlanta on March 14th & 15th.  Mark came in 5th out of 28 boats that sailed on Sunday.  No races were on Saturday due to lack of wind.   We are looking forward to our Hawg Wild regatta on opening weekend, May 2nd & 3rd.  We are expecting some out of town boats - so keep praying for rain.
