Located just minutes from Little Rock, Lake Maumelle is the perfect place to experience exciting racing in the heart of Arkansas. Since 1959, the Grand Maumelle Sailing Club (GMSC) has pioneered competitive sailing on Lake Maumelle, and we take immense pride in our Keelboat Racing Program. Committed to professional race management, we run races challenging sailors while prioritizing safety and enjoyment.
At GMSC, we are passionate about providing the best environment for competitive racing. Our club offers complete facilities for keelboat racers, including docks, boat ramps, boat slips, parking, trailer storage, and a 5,000 lb. crane for moving boats in and out of the water.
The keelboats raced on Lake Maumelle span 20 to 30 plus feet, encompassing popular classes and custom designs. We follow the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) system, ensuring fair competition among different boat types and emphasizing the skill of our sailors over equipment advantages.
To foster maximum participation, we have two keelboat Fleets.
- A Fleet with lower handicaps promises intense competition for experienced sailors
- B Fleet accommodates Cruising-type sailboats and new sailors in a welcoming yet competitive environment.
