Race Committee Positions
Principle Race Officer ( PRO): The overall racecourse management of the event is the responsibility of the PRO.
Recorder: Writes sail numbers/finish times.
Timer: Keeps time during starts, recording leg times and finish times if required.
Flags: Posts the race information before the start sequence, hoist start signal flags as required, and recall flags after the start if necessary. Also, track requirements of other timed flags (flags up or down, etc.)
Support Boat Team: A two-person team of a driver and assistant is assigned to set marks and assist racers as needed.
RC Boat Crew: A person generally available to do various tasks on the boat, like help anchors the boat, assist if other boats come alongside (fenders, lines, etc.), move tow lines, inflate marks, etc.
Backup Volunteers: Backup fleet volunteers are racing sailors assigned to work on the race committee to ensure sufficient RC staff support for an event. Non-racing volunteers are assigned job slots first while using backup volunteers to fill the open slots as needed. On a perfect day, non-racing volunteers will fill all the job slots, and the racing fleet backups will be released to join the race course.
Note: Committee boat and support boat drivers are required to be GMSC members. All other positions are open to member and non-member volunteers.
